Since I am somewhat of a diehard fan of the Final Fantasy series, especially games related to 7, I wanted to test how well Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion worked out-of-the-box on Arch Linux with a non-LTS kernel installed and possibly lots of unstable packages; to my amusement, I didn’t encounter any speed bumps and the game just worked flawlessly without any mods or tweaks to Unreal Engine 4 files unlike Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade.
In addition, this was more of a proof-of-concept in terms of gaming on a Linux Arch machine while being recorded on a Windows machine than anything that’s fully functional and/or easily used without extensive tweaking. I used OBS Studio with the NewTek NDI plugin to connect both machines via my LAN since I was too cheap to buy a capture card. Although the recording shows a bit of screen tearing, it only occured when recording on the Windows machine and was not present during actual gameplay on the Linux Arch machine. However, it’s still a work-in-progress for me to refine this setup.
