A report by Tom’s hardware states that CXMT is expected to match Micron’s production capacity this year. Micron is part of a historically long oligopoly along with Samsung and SK Hynix also known as the big three. Also from that report, CXMT is being pressured to share its technology with other partially state-owned enterprises (SOE) — JHICC, Swaysure, and XMC. Even without the newest and best lithography tools CXMT is still advancing and is near performance parity with the big three for consumer random access memory (RAM).

Normally, I would welcome more competition in the marketplace, but CXMT is majority controlled by CCP financial entities. I’m not saying that all of CXMT’s long-term goals are nefarious such as dumping to eventually dominate the market, but they’ve been alleged with significant IP theft from Samsung.

I do see CXMT as a relevant component in the Chinese electronics supply chain in terms of stabilizing consumer RAM availability and prices since it’s not just smartphones and computers that use RAM, but smart appliances such as TVs, washers and dryers, refrigerators, etc. However, it appears that CXMT is charging outrageous prices like the big three currently.
